Jennifer Grimes



Jennifer has worked in public schools and in private practice, amassing more than thirty years’ experience in special education issues. She received a BS in Human Development from University of California, Davis, and an MA in Psychology from California State University, San Francisco. She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from University of California, Davis, where she pursued advanced study in cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology.


As a licensed educational psychologist in full-time private practice, she strives to translate what we know about the brain to educational practice. Dr. Grimes is recognized as Subject Matter Expert by the Board of Behavioral Sciences, State of California. She routinely consults with school districts, universities, learning clinics, and state and federal agencies to support the achievement of individuals with special needs.


Dr. Grimes is an award-winning feature writer for a national education and parenting journal and has published research and presented lectures in the areas of cognitive assessment.


In her free time, Jennifer loves live music, sailing, and making memories with her family.



Elio Gutierrez-Montoya



Dr. Elio Gutiérrez-Montoya completed his doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at California Northstate University and a postdoctoral residency at the Adult Outpatient Assessment Clinic at Kaiser Roseville. He completed his undergraduate education at UC Davis and earned his master's degree at California Northstate University. His doctoral research examined how the learning environment mediates both academic and mental health outcomes in graduate-level students, with an emphasis on students from marginalized populations.

Before his psychological training, he spent over ten years at UC Davis developing, evaluating, and coordinating university recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts, as well as working as an academic and career advisor.


Dr. Gutiérrez-Montoya's mental health work has spanned academic, clinical, and private settings. His training has emphasized cognitive and intellectual assessment, ADHD evaluation, and working with both youth and adults from marginalized populations, including LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and foster/adopted youth and their caregivers. Before pursuing his psychological training, he developed and coordinated university recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts, and also worked as an academic and career advisor. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, exploring new places, playing board games, and engaging in artistic expression and performance.


Dr. Gutiérrez-Montoya is a native speaker of both English and Spanish and is comfortable conducting evaluations in either language.



Olivia Grimes



Olivia is Dr. Grimes' daughter. Since high school, she has assisted Jennifer with logistic and technical tasks related to her practice such as data entry, IT, and copy editing.


In 2023, Olivia received her B.A in Political Science and City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley, graduating with High Distinction in General Scholarship. She returned to Berkeley to pursue her Juris Doctor in 2024.
